I Will Be Your Shelter, 2022
Combining food and sculpture, this project seeks to portray my family relationship with a sensitive approach. Food becomes our medium for expressing feelings and care. When I hear the phrase "Dinner is ready!" echoing through our home, it brings me a sense of comfort and familiarity. I remember the smell of my mother's hair after she cooks. I remember the piles of exotic fruits that always seem to be fresh and restocked at the center of our kitchen table each day. The fleeting nature of food reminds me to treasure life's balance, evoking emotions, memories, and even fantasies. Through deliberate composition, lighting, and styling, I attempt to capture the emotional depth of food sculptures, conveying the essence of affection and intertwined memories within our culinary traditions.
On the tip of my tongue.
My dad's standard breakfast
My mom puts sweet potatoes in the oven before going to bed so my dad can simply reheat them for breakfast. The smell of baked sweetness fills the house at night, also in my dream.
I will be your shelter.
